Restaurant Review: Sunday Lunch Experience From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with genuine warmth and made to feel completely at home. The dining room’s relaxed atmosphere and friendly front-of-house staff set the tone for a first-class Sunday outing. --- Service The service was impeccable throughout. Our server anticipated every need, refilled drinks promptly, and offered knowledgeable recommendations. It felt as though we were long-standing regulars rather than first-time visitors. --- The Sunday Roast - Roast Beef Cooked to perfection: tender, juicy, and beautifully pink in the centre. - Seasonal Vegetables Fresh, well-seasoned, and cooked just right to retain both flavor and bite. - Yorkshire Pudding Slightly more well-done than ideal—crispy edges with a firmer interior than expected. - Roast Potatoes Golden and flavourful, though a touch too firm; even the steak knife struggled to cut through cleanly. --- Verdict Those two minor quibbles didn’t detract from an otherwise outstanding meal. I’m already looking forward to returning for another Sunday roast and diving into the main menu. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a welcoming spot and a top-notch roast in town.
Read on Google MapsCan not fault it! Our visit for Sunday lunch was sooooo good. Everything is well thought out, from the sparkling glasses with complimentary sparkling water on arrival to the perfectly presented and cooked food. The menu is fantastic and we will definitely be back to try other options, but we were there to try the Aberdeen Angus Chateaubriand of Beef, and it did not dissapoint. The service was impeccable, very friendly and attentive without being fussy, and no hint of anyone not wanting to be on shift! Excellent value at 2 x courses for £30 - and no one left hungry. We loved it, and were planning out next visit with the family after the starter.
Read on Google MapsHas a feeling of expense about it. Loads of staff on who ensure that you have everything you need. It is on the more spends side but if you’re looking for a nice meal with drinks for something special I would definitely consider going to The Clarence. Loved every bite.
Read on Google MapsHonestly what a fabulous meal we had at the Clarence! Staff and atmosphere were lovely. We got the chicken coronation croquettes and beef tartare to start, unreal. That beef fat hash brown was so good. We had the steak to share which was cooked perfectly and the smoked butter mash was also delicious. Chocolate mousse was lovely too. Definitely coming again for a Sunday roast soon!
Read on Google MapsWe recently had the pleasure of dining here, and the experience was nothing short of smashing. We opted for a selection of snacks and the sirloin to share, accompanied by both béarnaise and peppercorn sauces, rounding off the meal with the lemon posset and sticky toffee pudding. The evening kicked off perfectly, with the initial snacks arriving promptly and tasting absolutely delicious—a high-quality start that set the tone. The star of the show, however, was the sirloin. It was evident the steak was expertly dry-aged in-house; the resulting depth of flavor was incredible and truly enhanced the quality of the meat. It was, simply put, amazing, allowing the distinct, wonderful taste of the dry-aging process to come through clearly. Moving toward dessert, the lemon posset served as the ideal palate cleanser, perfectly tart and smooth—an excellent pre-dessert moment. This prepared us for the grand finale: one of the best sticky toffee puddings I have ever had. The richness, warmth, and texture were flawless, making it a truly unforgettable end to the meal. Every dish was executed with precision, making this a five-star dining experience we can't wait to repeat.
