The Riverside 1901 is an Italian restaurant on Clarkston Road in Cathcart, a couple of minutes’ walk from Cathcart station and the White Cart. It soft-launched at the end of July 2025 as a rebrand of Cyrus’ Kitchen (same address; the site has also traded as Barbarossa and other Italian names in recent years), with an official opening party in mid-August. The kitchen stays Italian-led — pasta, seafood and classics that diners still talk about from the Cyrus era (prawns, meatballs, sea bass crop up in recent reviews). Glasgow Live noted Turkish–Italian crossover under the previous name; the Riverside pitch is Italian dining with table booking and a published lunch-to-late evening day. Google ratings for the new branding sit very high on a still-small review base. Hours posted at launch were Sunday–Thursday 12:00–22:00 and Friday–Saturday 12:00–23:00 (some aggregators show slightly different midweek starts — phone to confirm). Book via the website when it is live, or call 0141 374 0602. The team has publicly floated ideas about the vacant Velvet Sparrow unit upstairs; treat that as aspiration until there is firm news.

Night out with friend and it was a main of cajun chicken pasta for both of us and a side of garlic bread. Delicious! Friend had the cheesecake of the day which was twix and I had ice cream to finish. All washed down with lovely cocktails (all cocktails were £5! Bargain!) Service was fantastic and although it was very busy our server was always checking in to make sure we were OK and enjoying our food/drinks without being overbearing. 2nd visit here and will definitely be back.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had an incredible dining experience at The Riverside 1901 on the Southside of Glasgow. From start to finish, everything was outstanding. We started with the prawns, which were absolutely amazing – perfectly cooked, full of flavour, and a real highlight to kick things off. The meatballs that followed were equally delicious, rich and hearty with just the right seasoning. The pasta was fresh and cooked beautifully, with a lovely balance of flavours that really stood out. For the main, I had the sea bass, which was cooked to perfection – tender, tasty, and paired wonderfully with its accompaniments. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and welcoming, with a great balance between stylish and comfortable. Service was excellent as well – attentive without being overbearing, and you can tell the staff really care about the experience they’re providing. All in all, The Riverside 1901 is a fantastic addition to Glasgow’s Southside dining scene. Amazing food, friendly service, and a menu that delivers on quality. I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable meal – I’ll definitely be back.
