Original Khyber+ is an Afghan and Pakistani grill café at 69 Kilmarnock Road in Shawlands. Google tags it “Indian”, but the menu is Afghan and desi: Namkeen and Charsi karahi, Qabuli pilau with lamb shank, mantu dumplings, nihari, kebabs and dishes from the charcoal grill. It has been trading at this address since around late 2020. Curry-Heute reported that it was started by people linked to The Khyber, described as Glasgow’s first Afghan restaurant in Pollokshields, though that lineage is soft. The current company, Original Khyber+ Ltd, is run by director Bilal Khan, whom Curry-Heute photographed as “Mein Host” in January 2026. Ron Mackenna reviewed it in The Herald and scored it 26/30, with 9/10 for food. He praised the Qabuli pilau with lamb shank, the chicken tikka and the channa, along with bargain prices and busy booths. Diners regularly mention generous portions, fair prices, friendly staff and authentic karahi and pilau. They also note it can get very busy, with service stretched when takeaway and dine-in orders collide. Prices on the online menu are low. Chicken or veg biryani is £7.99, Qabuli pilau with lamb shank £12.99, lamb Charsi karahi £14.99, Namkeen karahi £16.99, mantu (9 pieces) £9.99 and four lamb chops £9.99. The showpiece Dumpukht, a slow-cooked lamb shoulder at £31.99, needs 24 hours’ notice. It’s open every day from 1pm to 11pm (as listed on its site). The official website is a Foodhub takeaway-ordering site, which also takes table bookings online (sign-in required). By public transport, buses 3, 49, 57 and 57A stop at Shawlands Cross, and the nearest rail stations are Pollokshaws East and Shawlands. There is no Subway nearby.

Read on Google MapsJust happened to stumble upon this gem of a place when it comes to authentic food. Dishes are simple and to the point. Forget the ambiance and enjoy the food. It’s a clean place where you can take your family or friends. I am surprise that why afghani boti is not on the menu.
Read on Google MapsWorst ever Chicken Byrinia i have tasted it was absolutely disgusting Chicken was last nights I think and rice was definitely not freshly cooked... the Garlic Nan was as dry as anything i would never order again from this takeaway. Also delivery driver was pretty strange.
