HUG is an independent family-run café at 17 Skirving Street, Shawlands. Official site: the team has worked in Glasgow’s finer eateries and bars and wants a neighbourhood take on excellent coffee and food. Daytime favourites include full Scottish breakfast, French toast and filled rolls; Glasgow World also notes an evening bar menu with Cullen skink, cacio e pepe loaded fries and Chicken Milanese. Ooft. I was looking to kill an hour whilst my car got a service and took a chance on this as it seemed busy. The full breakfast was perfect then I had probably the best carrot cake of my life. The rest of the cakes look good as well. Having a look at the other tables, all the food seems nice. The service was brilliant. Unfortunately I couldn't stop eating the carrot cake to take a picture.
Read on Google MapsWent in for a brunch and were told it would be a wee wait for our food as it was v busy but we were happy to wait. Server couldn’t have been any lovelier and gave us our drinks for free for waiting. Thank you for being so cute 🥰.
Read on Google MapsWe had been to this restaurant previously and had a nice experience, the food is good it's spacious, with a nice outdoor area, we came in with our family of 5 adults and 4 children, and we were offered to move the table into the corner as it would be a bit easier for the kids. We started doing this (to help, and keep out of the way) and the owner came out with a horrid, condescending tone saying that it's his restaurant and he moves the furniture. We can respect that, it's your space you own it, but the owners tone was despicable. He spoke to my fiancé like she wasn't worth being in the restaurant, we left and have taken our business elsewhere and won't be back. I hope he can find a kinder way of speaking to his customers in the future. Horrible experience overall, especially when we are with our kids just looking for some lunch. For clarity, the staff that work there are lovely, just the owner that sullied the experience.

Read on Google MapsEnjoyable meal and friendly service. Opted for a seat inside but a few seats outside. Menu has been changed, for the better, since I was last in. Went for the hummus dish which was both tasty and filling and will definitely have again. Option for alcoholic drinks which is a bonus when the weather is nice and you are sitting outside.
