Overview

The McMillan Bar + Chop House sits at 862 Pollokshaws Road, between Shawlands and Strathbungo, looking towards Queen's Park. Scott and Evelyn McMillan opened it in September 2014 in a former garage and carpet shop. Their children Miles and Mia bought the business around 2021, later bought the freehold, and still run it as a family steakhouse, bar and Sunday-roast restaurant. The menu is built around Scotch beef steaks and seafood from Bernard Corrigan's of Glasgow, with cocktails, beer and a serious wine list. Single steaks on a recent OpenTable menu run from flat iron at £27 to a 12oz fillet at £62; sharing cuts include chateaubriand and a 40oz tomahawk. There is also a Sunday roast (beef, chicken or vegetarian) and, according to SLTN in 2024, a lunch deal of steak and chips for £12. Reviewers praise friendly service, steaks and Sunday roasts; a few mention slow service on busy nights. It is open every day from noon (until 11pm Mon–Thu, midnight Fri–Sat, 10pm Sun). Andy's Bar — named after the owners' grandfather — is a separate drinks room with a log burner, hireable for up to 40. There is a private dining room for up to 26 (£50 deposit, £800 minimum spend, 12.5% discretionary service) and a snug for up to 12. An outdoor terrace is drinks-only. Six private parking spaces sit at the rear; Titwood Road has free on-street parking nearby. Queens Park and Crossmyloof stations are the nearest trains.

Really very good steak! Really. Chips were amazing too. The onion rings and Mac and cheese were nice but had their thunder stolen. Special shout out for the jalapeno and pineapple chicken wings - never had any like it and they were fab

Went here shortly after I gave birth to enjoy my first steak in over 9 months 😅 It did not disappoint. Cooked exactly as requested and very tasty. Reasonable pricing. There is lots of space in the restaurant to come along with the pram. And the staff was very friendly.

My brother treated me and my dad to a birthday lunch here. We had a lovely time, especially due to our fantastic server Madeleine. She was hilarious and really made our visit special.

My son had a steak which - at £36 - was half the size he expected! I had the chicken which was so nice!! We ate early - and the service was disappointing. The place could have been warmer. So - overall - definitely not dreadful- but hoped for better! Nice- food was good - as was the wine- but not worth the price tag…?

This is the 4th time I’ve been here and it was great the first 3 times. Unfortunately something was very off with the food on this last visit. Everything was dry and not very tasty. The steak was very dry and a little tough. The fish was a little bland and the peas were so dry they were inedible. We ended up leaving quite a lot of food on our plates. The place has a great vibe, lovely decor and great staff but the food itself was a real let down this time. To be honest, It’s put me off going back. I wonder if they have changed chefs since we were last there or they were just having an off night.
