Overview
Òran Mór is a truly unique and stunning multi-purpose arts and events venue located in the heart of Glasgow's West End, at the top of Byres Road opposite the Botanic Gardens. The venue occupies the former Kelvinside Free Church, a historic building with its foundation stone laid in 1862. The church served as a Parish church until the late 1970s when the congregation dwindled, leaving the building derelict. In 2002, prominent Glasgow publican Colin Beattie undertook an ambitious transformation of the derelict church into what would become one of Scotland's most renowned cultural venues. The painstaking refurbishment was a labour of love that brought together some of Scotland's greatest creative minds. Project Architect Peter McGurn, who lived near the project, oversaw the architectural transformation, while globally renowned artist and writer Alasdair Gray was commissioned to paint a ceiling mural that would become Scotland's largest piece of public art. Today, Òran Mór (Gaelic for "Big Song") encompasses a labyrinth of interconnected spaces including a pub, restaurant, event venues, wedding spaces, and gig areas, all centred around what remains essentially a very good pub. The venue is famous for its programme of events and shows, most notably "A Play, A Pie & A Pint," Scotland's longest-running daytime theatre initiative, which regularly plays to sold-out crowds. The building opened in June 2004 and has since become an iconic Scottish venue, hosting diverse events from music performances to unique weddings and celebrations.
Reviews
We didn't eat here but have been to the Òran Mór for a few gigs and I like it! It's usually clean, the bar staff seem nice and the toilets are never messy...a real plus considering some of the pubs I've been to in the area! All in all, recommended.
Read on Google MapsAn incredible space - bar, restaurant, theatre! If you want delicious Scottish food, a wonderful atmosphere and a fantastic selection of drinks head here. Try the Cullen Skink and a steak. The vegetarian options were also delicious. We had excellent, attentive and friendly service from Abby. We would definitely recommend here to all and I will definitely come back next time I am in Glasgow.

Read on Google MapsThe food was amazing! We ordered the croquettes, chicken tikka masala and the trifle. The food was delicious but they got my dessert order wrong and they were really generous and gave us the dessert for free - the service and hospitality was brilliant!
