Piccolo Mondo is a family-run Scottish-Italian restaurant at 344 Argyle Street in Glasgow city centre, close to Central Station. Tony and Giuliana Pierotti came to Scotland from Barga in Tuscany in 1962 and opened the first Piccolo Mondo (Italian for 'small world') in Renfrew in 1974. They sold it in 1989, ran La Fiorentina and La Riviera in Glasgow, then revived the name on Argyle Street in June 2005, according to the restaurant's own history and Scottish Licensed Trade News. The menu is Italian with a Tuscan lean, with pasta, pizza and a long Italian wine list. The family's son Emilio (Lio) helps run the business, and head chef Iain Monaghan has worked with the Pierottis for over 20 years. The Scotsman reviewed the Glasgow restaurant after it opened. The restaurant lists Italian Restaurant of the Year 2023 at the Scottish Restaurant Awards, plus Best Italian Restaurant, Most Romantic Restaurant and Best Wine List at the 2013 Scottish Italian Awards. Some of those awards may refer to the group, which also runs a sister restaurant in Renfrew that reopened on the original Hairst Street site in 2011. Closed Mondays and Sundays. Book online for smaller tables; parties of six or more (and all December bookings) need a £10-per-person deposit that the restaurant says is non-refundable.
