Overview
GUU Kitchen is the Union Kitchen inside Glasgow University Union at 32 University Avenue — a student-union cafe, not a Japanese restaurant (Google’s “Ukish” tag is misleading). Newly refurbished in 2017, it sells breakfast, lunch and dinner at campus prices that undercut much of the West End. The official kitchen page describes a weekly rotating seasonal menu (satays and curries through to haggis, neeps and tatties), with Union Chicken Burgers always on, plus vegetarian and vegan specials, salads, fruit pots, smoothies and sandwiches. Sit in or take away. Free GUU membership (sign up in the building) gives 10% off the kitchen and the union’s G12 / Drawing Room cafes (MyGlasgow student news, Feb 2026). Hours on directories cluster around 9am–8:30pm weekdays, Saturday afternoon–evening, Sunday closed — confirm on @guunion. Kelvinbridge and Hillhead Subway stations both serve the university precinct. Function catering for events in the historic union building is a separate bookable service (events@guu.co.uk).

Staff here are always friendly and quick to serve. Good selection of food here too, the stews are particularly tasty. Whether it's a uni lunch or late-night portion of chips, it's recommended.

Dishes are mostly based on rice and pasta which are overboiled and unseasoned. Burgers and wraps are pretty good, and good value.
