Red Onion on West Campbell Street is chef-patron John Quigley’s casual Scottish bistro, opened with his wife Gillian in 2005 after his years cooking in London and as a touring private chef (Bryan Adams, Tina Turner and others). The kitchen reworks classic Scottish dishes in a neighbourhood-bistro room in the city centre — Harden’s notes a varied, approachable menu and strong diner feedback into its twentieth year. They push hard on dietary inclusion: full gluten-free, dairy-free, combined GF/DF, vegan and gluten-free vegan menus. Pre-theatre is 2/3 courses at £25/£30 (Sun–Fri from noon; Sat until 6.30pm), with gluten-free and dairy-free versions too. A discretionary 10% service charge may apply on tables of six or more. Restaurant close to my hotel in a rainy night with good reviews = must visit. The food was good, perhaps my choices weren't the best but I reckon it was a great scottish dining experience. The service was attentive and effective, ambience a little overwhelming to my taste but not a biggie. It was overall very good and Id certainly recommend.
Read on Google MapsI cannot share enough about this place. Wonderful atmosphere, delicious menu, wonderful options for those with allergens including dairy free, vegan, and gluten free. The staff is attentive but not overbearing and the food was absolutely delightful. This is worth a special trip! Don’t skip dessert either!
Read on Google MapsWe dined as a part of a tour group. I had the Rib Eye Steak and it was excellent! It was grilled perfectly and had a great Char. I also enjoyed the French Onion Soup. The service was excellent.

Read on Google MapsFood was amazing. Scallops on chorizo was delicious and the sea bass with shavings of Parmesan and a beautifully crispy skin. Nice to meet the owner/ chef too. Will be back and the decor is so cool - even the taps in the loo!
