Overview

Pane E Vino is a traditional Italian delicatessen located at 208-210 Fenwick Road in Giffnock, Glasgow. This authentic Italian food destination offers an exceptional selection of Italian produce, from fresh cured meats and fine cheeses to pasta, biscuits, and seasonal treats, serving both the local community and those seeking authentic Italian flavours. The delicatessen is run by Piero Sarti, whose passion for Italian food developed from working in his grandfather's business, Fazzi Brothers Ltd, a Clyde Street institution that was part of Glasgow's Italian heritage. This deep-rooted connection to Italian culinary traditions shines through in every aspect of Pane E Vino, from product selection to the knowledgeable service that helps customers discover genuine Italian produce. Pane E Vino operates throughout the week with flexible hours to accommodate various needs. Monday sees them open 9am-6pm, while Tuesday through Saturday they're open 9am-11pm. On Fridays and Saturdays after 5pm, they accept table bookings for deli food and drinks, while all other days operate on a walk-in basis. The establishment offers an extensive range of Italian delicacies including prosciutto, mortadella, pancetta, guanciale, and lardo among their cured meats selection. With an online store and the ability to book tables for evening dining, Pane E Vino brings authentic Italian culinary culture to Glasgow's Southside.

The restaurant has been described as excellent Italian cafe, best in Glasgow by far, delightful genuine Italian bistro, and top class authentic establishment, with reviewers noting it feels like sitting in a cafe in Rome or Venice.

The food at Pane E Vino receives outstanding reviews, with dishes consistently described as outstanding, to die for, delicious, so tasty, and freshly made from scratch with wholesome ingredients. The restaurant makes food according to your order, which means there may be a wait, but the food quality benefits from being freshly prepared rather than pre-made. Even simple dishes like spaghetti pomodoro are described as to die for, and the vegetarian homemade lasagne receives particular praise when available. The menu is not extensive, but what they do, they do really well. However, there have been some concerns raised about sandwich quality, with one reviewer noting sandwiches were pretty poor and below average for the price (around £12 each), though the hot food looked good. The Italian sausage with fried onion on Italian bread receives positive feedback, described as so tasty.

The restaurant's wine selection receives exceptional praise, with wines described as outstanding, fantastic, delicious, good value, and of exceptional quality. The house wines and those on the menu are described as simply delicious and good value, and the plethora of wines for sale all around allow experimentation beyond the menu. The corkage charge is described as very reasonable, and the restaurant offers a pasta and wine deal for £20 during the week.

The coffee at Pane E Vino receives outstanding reviews, with reviewers describing it as outstanding and some of the best coffee they've tasted. The coffee is described as exquisitely smooth and flavoursome, with the barista expertly dialling in the coffee to the machine. The americano comes as an espresso shot with a jug of hot water, allowing customization. The restaurant uses organic coffee beans, and reviewers note that in Italy they serve coffees in small cups, which is authentic to Italian cafe culture.

The restaurant's cakes and desserts receive positive feedback, described as so good and tempting that reviewers have yet to be able to resist having a dessert at any visit.

The restaurant offers an intriguing selection of Italian produce, with reviewers noting they are surrounded by so many tempting Italian gourmet foods and wines, and they rarely leave without purchasing some.

The restaurant's atmosphere receives consistent praise, with reviewers describing it as delightful, featuring an ambience that really feels like you are sitting in a cafe in Rome or Venice. The restaurant has no chain feel and no restricted times (like two-hour slots), allowing guests to dine for as long as they like.

Service at Pane E Vino receives generally positive feedback, with staff described as lovely, attentive, and friendly. The staff and owners are noted for recognising and acknowledging regular customers, and if not too busy, finding time to chat. However, there have been some service issues reported, including one reviewer noting it took a while to get food (probably a staff issue), and another reviewer noting that one lady was very rude, saying she knows her business when the customer was just wanting to double check their bill, and using inappropriate language like "what do you want" which is not appropriate for a classy cafe.

Value perception varies, with some reviewers noting it's a bit pricey but paying for quality, while others find the wines and special deals (like pasta and wine for £20) to be good value.

For visitors to Glasgow, Pane E Vino offers an authentic Italian cafe experience with outstanding food, wine, and coffee in a genuine Italian atmosphere. The restaurant's ability to deliver outstanding quality, authentic experience, and no time restrictions has earned it enthusiastic recommendations from many reviewers. However, guests should be aware that food is made fresh to order, which may mean waiting, and there have been some service inconsistencies reported. The combination of outstanding food, wine, and coffee, authentic atmosphere, and Italian produce selection makes it a standout establishment, though the restaurant would benefit from ensuring consistent service quality and addressing sandwich quality concerns to maintain its reputation as the best Italian cafe in Glasgow.

Visited for a couple sandwiches and some coffee. Probably a staff issue as it took a while to get our food and when we did, it was below average for what I paid. Sandwiches were £12 or so each and pretty poor. Wouldn’t go back for the sandwiches but the hot food looked good and it’s nice inside.

Excellent italian cafe. Best in Glasgow by far! None of this “chain” feel and restricted times eg two hour slots. You can dine for as long as you like and the staff are lovely. The bad reviews are only because people have no patience to wait for their food and are used to chain restaurants like DiMaggios,Toni Macaroni and Pizza Hut etc which are basically fast food restaurants with crap plastic food. The people who are looking for bigger coffees have obvs never been to Italy because in Italy they serve coffees in small cups. Again people are used to large coffees from Starbucks or Costa where they serve coffees using mouldy coffee beans. Pane e Vino are not like this. They make their food from scratch with wholesome ingredients and use organic coffee beans for their coffees. In fact I have been all over Italy and I would say they serve some of the best coffee I have tasted. If there is a wait for food then it’s only because they are cooking the food and not microwaving it. This place is a top class authentic establishment and very typical of a cafe in Italy. The food is to die for and the wines including house wine are fantastic. They even do a pasta and wine deal for £20! I’m sorry but the people who leave the unjust reviews have no class because this is a hard working restaurant and they do not deserve to be slated. Keep up the good works guys 👍🏻

We have visited this cafe many times. It is our go to place for an authentic Italian meal. Firstly, we love the ambience and feel of this place. It really feels like you are sitting in a cafe in Rome or Venice. You are surrounded by so many tempting Italian gourmet foods and wines of exceptional quality. We rarely leave without indulging ourselves in purchasing some. Secondly, the food is outstanding. It is freshly made according to your order. That necessarily means that you have to wait for it to be made, but the food would just not be so good if it was pre-prepared or sitting stewing in a pan for hours. The menu is not extensive. No jack of all trades here. What they do, they do really well. The fact that the food is made fresh and with quality ingredients means that even a simple spaghetti pomodoro is to die for! Plus the time taken simply allows you to acquaint yourself with the goodies on offer all around you! If you’re lucky the vegetarian home made lasagne will be on the menu. Thirdly, the wine is outstanding. The house wines and those on offer in the menu are simply delicious and good value. However the plethora of wines for sale all around allow you to experiment and not be constricted by those on the menu. The corkage charge is very reasonable. Fourthly, the cakes and desserts are just so good and tempting, that we have yet to be able to resist having a desert at any visit! Fifthly, the coffee is outstanding. The barista has dialled in the coffee to the machine expertly. No bitter tasting coffee here, just exquisitely smooth and flavoursome coffee. We like the fact that the americano comes as an espresso shot with a jug of hot water so you can tailor the coffee to your exact taste. Last but not least, the service is attentive and friendly. It is nice to frequent an establishment where the staff and owners recognise and acknowledge you, and if not too busy, find the time to chat to you. Top tip they have a special deal during the week for a pasta and a wine for a really good price. Best to check though as it can be busy.
