Overview
CATCH Fish & Chips at 186 Fenwick Road in Giffnock is a posh, modern neighbourhood fish and chip shop and restaurant that has transformed the traditional British staple into an exceptional dining experience. With a stellar 4.3-star rating from nearly 1000 reviews, CATCH serves exceptionally sourced seafood cooked to perfection, combining casual style with premium quality. The restaurant's philosophy centers on light and crispy batter enveloping the freshest fish, with every dish cooked fresh to order. Beyond the classic haddock and chips that traditionalists love, CATCH offers an adventurous menu featuring lobster, halibut, langoustine tails, beef burgers, and old-fashioned fish finger butties. Where possible, they source from Scottish coastal fisheries that follow best practices and sustainable fishing methods. CATCH goes beyond traditional fish and chips with a fully stocked bar featuring craft beers from Scotland and beyond, bubbly from Italy and France, and a carefully selected range of wines. The takeaway menu offers exceptional quality for those preferring to dine at home, with everything prepared fresh to order for maximum flavour and crispiness. Their commitment to quality extends to their potatoes, which are peeled daily, chipped, and twice-cooked in rapeseed oil that they recycle. Operating from 12 PM to 9 PM Sunday through Thursday, and until 9:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, CATCH provides both sit-in and takeaway options, creating a stylish yet casual environment where exceptional seafood is accessible without the stuffiness or premium price tag typical of high-end seafood restaurants.
What People Are Saying
CATCH Fish & Chips offers a fish and chips experience with unique offerings beyond traditional chippies, receiving generally positive feedback for its food quality and service when standards are met. The restaurant has been described as excellent, wonderful, and a favourite fish and chips restaurant in Scotland, though recent reviews have raised concerns about quality consistency and value.
The food at CATCH receives positive feedback when quality standards are met, with dishes described as super delicious, excellent, delicious, very good, very tasty, and top quality. The restaurant offers unique items that you don't get anywhere else, which reviewers find exciting. Specific dishes receive particular acclaim, with the tempura prawn described as amazing, and the battered chips described as wow. The squid and broccoli tempura starters are described as delicious, and the fish is described as top quality with batter even better. The hot spice receives particular praise, and reviewers appreciate that you don't walk out smelling like seafood, which is a common issue with fish and chip shops.
However, there have been significant concerns raised about food quality and value, particularly in recent reviews. One reviewer noted that the place has gone badly downhill, with issues including stone cold soggy batter, and cold, hard, dry chips, described as a big disappointment. Portion size concerns have been raised, with one reviewer noting that the £11.50 "large haddock" is really just 2 halves of a fillet and doesn't include chips, with chips added on at £3.45 and barely a handful. The pricing for 3 fish suppers and a kids meal came to £55, and the reviewer noted they don't mind premium prices if it's premium food, but it isn't. Another reviewer noted that for the price compared to other chippies, it's not quite the same, and the chips are just like any other local chippie, suggesting that value may not always match expectations.
Service at CATCH is consistently praised as amazing, contributing positively to the experience.
The restaurant is family-friendly, with one reviewer noting that 2 kids ate the lot no fuss, making it suitable for family visits.
For visitors to Glasgow, CATCH offers a fish and chips experience with unique offerings and excellent food when quality standards are met. The restaurant's ability to deliver super delicious food, amazing service, and unique items has earned it positive recommendations from many reviewers. However, guests should be aware that there have been concerns raised about food quality consistency and value, particularly in recent reviews, with some noting the place has gone downhill. The combination of generally good food, amazing service, and unique offerings makes it a worthwhile destination, though the restaurant would benefit from addressing quality consistency and ensuring value matches pricing to maintain its positive reputation.

Super delicious fish and chips. Service is amazing and you don't walk out smelling like seafood. Love the hot spice
Read on Google MapsI got a takeaway so hard to comment on the service & atmosphere, but I would say the food was very good! Although for the price compared to other chippies, it’s not quite the same. I would say the chips are just like any other local chippie. However, you do get things here that you don’t get anywhere else & that is what is exciting about it! Very tasty.
Read on Google MapsSimilar to our experience in Catch West End, our visit to the Giffnock branch was wonderful. Excellent food and delicious food. The tempura prawn was amazing, and the battered chips, wow! It's no doubt my favourite fish and chips restaurant in Scotland.
Read on Google MapsShame how badly downhill this place has gone. The £11.50 "large haddock" is really just 2 halves of a fillet, and doesn't include chips. Chips are added on at £3.45 and barely a handful in one of the little square cartons. This brings 3 fish suppers and a kids meal to 55 quid. Don't mind premium prices if it's premium food - but it isn't. Stone cold soggy batter, and cold, hard, dry chips. Big disappointment
