What People Are Saying

Cathay Cuisine Chinese Takeaway offers Chinese takeaway, receiving mixed reviews that reflect both strengths when quality standards are met and significant concerns about hygiene, service, and order accuracy. The takeaway has been described as featuring huge portions when operating well, though serious hygiene, service, and order accuracy issues have been raised by many reviewers.

The food at Cathay Cuisine receives mixed feedback, with dishes described as alright, huge portion, and loved it. One reviewer noted they had a huge portion of fried rice that was only a size regular but it was huge, and they also got a cute bag with a lucky cat on it. However, there have been significant quality concerns reported, with food described as cold, and one reviewer noting they bought chicken and chips and the food was cold. When they took it back and asked to swap chips, chicken and gravy, it was dipped in soya only. The reviewer noted they went back thinking to give it a chance, but apparently if you want hot food you need pay more, and details were sent to trading standards. The reviewer noted you can't pay more for hot food—the food is supposed to be hot, it's the law.

Order accuracy has been a significant concern, with multiple reports of incorrect orders. One reviewer noted they asked for chicken and char su fried rice and asked for extra ham in it as well. The first time they never added the ham, and the second time they added ham but didn't put in chicken despite paying extra both times. The reviewer noted it's not good enough to warrant going back again when they clearly don't care about getting the order correct.

Service at Cathay Cuisine has been consistently poor, with reviewers describing it as rude, and one reviewer noting they were immediately greeted by a rude man who shouted down the phone because he couldn't hear them and said "it's loud in the kitchen, I can't hear you!" and then hung up on them. The reviewer noted the manager couldn't be bothered to update the phone number on Google Maps, and they wouldn't trust them to make food now. The service issues are such that reviewers note it's definitely not a pleasant experience and they wouldn't recommend.

There have been serious hygiene concerns reported, with one reviewer noting they were walking past the shop at 6am and the amount of rats coming and going from under the shutter was unbelievable. They passed by again at 11am and there were still rats coming and going even while the people are inside working. The reviewer noted they must have an infestation within the shop, and they've reported them to environmental health. The reviewer also noted they have a birds nest lodged on top of their main entrance, and they noted obviously hygiene isn't very important to them. The reviewer urged everyone to stay clear.

There have been concerns about change of ownership, with one reviewer noting they used to love the old Cathay Cuisine before the change of ownership and frequented there for years, suggesting that quality may have declined since the change.

For visitors to Glasgow, Cathay Cuisine offers Chinese takeaway that can provide huge portions when operating well. However, there have been significant concerns raised about hygiene (including rat infestation), service (including rude staff), order accuracy, and food quality (including cold food). The combination of generally alright food when quality is consistent, but significant hygiene, service, and order accuracy concerns, makes it a problematic experience, and the takeaway would benefit from addressing hygiene issues, ensuring order accuracy, improving service standards, and ensuring food is served hot to ensure all guests have safe and positive experiences.

Second time nipping in to get my dinner in the last few weeks. Asked for chicken and char su fried rice and asked for extra ham in it as well. First time they never added the ham second time they added ham but didn't put in chicken despite paying extra both times. Foods alright and it's convenient for me as it's near my work but it's not good enough to warrant going back again when they clearly don't care about getting the order correct.

Was walking past this shop at 6am on Friday 24 January 2025 and the amount of rats coming and going from under the shutter was unbelievable. I've now just passed by again at 11am on sat 25th and there are still rats coming and going even while the people are inside working. They must have an infestation within the shop. I've reported them to environmental health. I'd urge everyone to stay clear. They also have a birds nest lodged on top of their main entrance. Obviously hygiene isn't very important to them.

Used to love the old Cathay Cuisine before the change of ownership, frequented there for years. Saw it was open again and called the number on Google Maps only to get a "This number is unavailable". Drove to the shop anyway to be told the number was wrong and the manager couldn't be bothered to update it. I was given the new number. Called again today for the first time since then and was immediately greeted by a rude man, who shouted down the phone because he couldn't hear me and said "it's loud in the kitchen, I can't hear you!" And then hung up on me... Move the phone. Close a door. Not my fault you're answering while still in the kitchen. Wouldn't trust them to make me food now, but definitely not a pleasant experience. Wouldn't recommend.
