Had a great time with watching the Blues Band, and having a wee sing myself. I thoroughly enjoy the venue here, it's such a great old 20th century bar. The Drinks are good prices too, definitely will be a place to come to more often!

Overview
Avant Garde is a family-run music bar and restaurant at 34–44 King Street in Glasgow’s Merchant City, open since 2012. It is not primarily a Scottish fine-dining room despite the Google cuisine tag: the house speciality is Mediterranean / Greek-leaning cooking (souvlaki, gyros, moussaka, saganaki, hummus, tzatziki) alongside Scottish comfort plates such as steak pie and breaded haddock, in a large industrial-style room with a central bar and a raised ~50-seat restaurant area. What people come for as much as the food is the entertainment: Merchant City jazz and a live ceilidh every Saturday, plus free-entry live bands on many Fridays. Capacity is quoted at about 306 in the main bar/restaurant and 60 in a private function room (own entrance off Parnie Street). Open Wed–Sun 11am–midnight; food served roughly noon–8pm (festive set menus sometimes run later). Book online at avantgardeglasgow.co.uk/book-a-table (£5pp deposit off the bill; cancel ≥24h for refund). Parties of 7+ must phone — the site alternately states £5 or £10pp deposit for those larger bookings, so confirm when you call. Meal deals include two courses from £18.95 (Wed–Sun ex Sat) and Saturday two-courses-with-wine £27.50. Glasgow Cross ~2–3 min; Argyle Street station a short walk; NCP parking ~2 min (venue claim).
Reviews
Enjoying the Saturday afternoon sessions with live Jazz. Great band, talented musicians! Seems to attract a senior crowd but they are all dancing and happy day drinking and it's sweet. Some members of the bar staff seem young unexperienced, patience may be required. I'm keen to try the food, and I hope they add beers to their tap options as they are quite basic at the time of this review!
