Overview

Whistler on the Green on Greendyke Street – beautifully crafted traditional local bar facing directly on to Glasgow Green at the McLennan Arch, because location absolutely matters and this place has nailed it. With a solid 4.4 rating, this is the kind of local bar that's got everything sorted properly. They're offering premium spirits, craft beers, and a seasonal cocktail menu (because sometimes a pint isn't enough and you need actual quality). They serve a wide variety of freshly prepared seasonal dishes including sustainably sourced seafood and shellfish, locally sourced meats, cheese plates, and comfort bar bites that actually hit the spot – not pretentious, just good food done well. The opening times are flexible and sensible: bar open Monday 5pm-midnight, Tuesday-Thursday noon-midnight, Friday-Sunday 9am-midnight. Kitchen serving Monday 5pm-9pm, Tuesday-Thursday noon-9pm, Friday-Sunday 9am-9pm. They've got a Thursday night quiz with quiz master Marky Mark from 7:30pm-10pm with prizes, pints, and patter (because Thursday needs excitement too). And they're running an annual "On the Green Festival" – their micro festival taking things outdoors to their huge front garden on Glasgow Green. Located at 5 Greendyke Street (G1 5PU), they're taking bookings 7 days a week and they've got venue hire available. This is a proper local bar that gets it – good food, good drinks, good location, and a quiz night. Because sometimes you need a local that does all the things properly.

This is easily one of my favourite pubs in Glasgow. The interiors are lovely, with lots of original features, quirky art, and a generally cosy feel. I’ve come here many times for drinks and the service is always so warm and friendly. The seating out the front, facing Glasgow green, is also a great sun trap (if you can snag a seat!). The food menu here is quite unique too (think fried pickles) and has a good range of options for veggies. We had the fried pickles to start which were tasty, but you’ve got to be a real pickle fan to enjoy these! For main I had a smashed veggie burger which was delicious - a nice change from the usual veggie burgers that restaurants can trot out. The macaroni was also great, and the fries here are amazing. For dessert we shared a couple of sticky toffee puddings which were divine. Looking forward to returning here many times!
