Overview
TheDorkyFrench vegan bakery brings authentic French viennoiseries to Glasgow with a 100% plant-based twist, launched by French founder and pastry chef MarlĆØne. Born from a longing for quality French pastries, this artisan vegan bakery opened its doors at 39 Parnie Street in June 2023, combining traditional French baking techniques with premium plant-based ingredients. The bakery specializes in viennoiseries ā a category of fine pastries including croissants and pains au chocolat, perfected in France after their invention in Vienna. Each pastry is laminated with love using authentic traditional French flours, organic butter with no palm oil, premium Belgian chocolate, and handmade vegan ingredients. Everything is freshly made daily, ensuring that authentic buttery, dreamy taste. Their extensive menu features classic vegan croissants, almond croissants, pains au chocolat (including a hazelnut version), pain suisse, creme brĆ»lĆ©e Danish, chocolate twists, and the innovative "Not Ham and Cheeze" croissants using German fine handmade vegan 'ham'. For those seeking something more substantial, they offer chilli 'sausage' & cheeze croissants, pain aux raisins, pain au brownie, and seasonal items like pistachio supreme rolls and apple turnovers. They also serve traditional French baguettes and offer celebration tarts and cakes. Operating as a takeaway shop at 39 Parnie Street, they're open Thursdays to Saturdays 8am-3pm and Sundays 9am-4pm. The bakery offers pre-order boxes (order by Tuesday 4pm for same-week collection), bundles, and gift cards. Weekend home deliveries are available via VeganWheels. With an impressive 4.9-star rating, TheDorkyFrench proves that exceptional French pastries can be both vegan and utterly delicious.
What People Are Saying
TheDorkyFrench vegan bakery has established itself as one of Glasgow's most celebrated vegan bakeries, consistently earning exceptional praise for its quality pastries that reviewers find hard to believe are vegan. The bakery has been described as one of the favorite vegan finds in Glasgow, a personal favorite, and a must-visit destination, with reviewers expressing their obsession and love for the establishment.
The pastries at TheDorkyFrench receive outstanding reviews, with everything described as perfection, absolutely fantastic, absolutely delicious, and DIVINE. The bakery offers a lovely choice of freshly baked items including croissants, turnovers, pain au chocolates, cookies, brownies, and bread, providing so much variety that reviewers note it's not often where there's too much choice for a vegan. The quality is such that reviewers consistently express amazement that it's all vegan, with one reviewer noting you really cannot believe it's vegan.
Specific pastries receive particular acclaim, with the apple turnover described as absolutely delicious, featuring crispy and soft pastry with the perfect balance of tart but sweet apples inside. The almond croissant is described as flavourful and not too sickly, with all of the right textures and taste to fool any non-vegan. The hazelnut pain au chocolat is described as DIVINE, and the sausage roll croissant is described as the most delicious breakfast you could have, with one reviewer noting they think about it often. The savoury pastries are described as just as addicting as the sweet ones, demonstrating the bakery's ability to excel across both categories.
The bakery offers a range of fully vegan savoury and sweet dishes, and the iced coffees receive positive feedback. The establishment's commitment to vegan baking while maintaining exceptional quality has earned it a dedicated following, with one reviewer noting they go straight from the airport every time they land in Glasgow and have even packed pastries in luggage to bring to family in their home country.
The bakery is described as a cute little cafe, though seating is limited with only 2-3 spaces if you're looking to sit in, though reviewers note it is doable. The limited seating suggests the bakery is primarily designed for takeaway, which suits many customers.
One area that has received feedback is the gluten-free options. While the bakery offers gluten-free items like brookies and brownies, there have been reports that these items need to be heated before eating (as noted in the box instructions) to achieve the best texture. When not heated, these items can be hard and dry, which was disappointing for a customer who purchased them to eat while out rather than at home with access to heating equipment. However, when heated as per instructions, the items are described as absolutely delicious. The heating requirement isn't mentioned on the website, which could lead to customer disappointment if they're expecting items that can be eaten immediately.
For visitors to Glasgow, TheDorkyFrench has become a destination that many feel is essential to experience, particularly for those seeking vegan options. The bakery's ability to deliver exceptional quality pastries that are hard to believe are vegan, combined with great variety and both sweet and savoury options, has earned it enthusiastic recommendations. Whether you're seeking vegan pastries, a must-visit bakery experience, or simply some of the best baked goods in Glasgow, TheDorkyFrench consistently delivers experiences that reviewers describe as perfection and absolutely fantastic. The combination of quality, variety, and vegan commitment makes it a standout and highly recommended establishment in Glasgow's bakery scene.
Reviews
This place is one of my favourite vegan finds in Glasgow! I arrived at the shop around midday worried that all of the pastries would be sold out, but was met with a lovely choice of freshly baked croissants, turnovers, pain au chocolates, cookies, brownies and bread. Itās not often where thereās too much choice for a vegan! I chose an apple turnover and an almond croissant and neither have lasted very long at all. The Apple turnover was absolutely delicious - crispy and soft pastry with the perfect balance of tart but sweet apples inside. I wish I had picked up 2 of them! The almond croissant is flavourful and not too sickly, with all of the right textures and taste to fool any non vegan! I would highly recommend this little bakery!
Read on Google MapsHaving had their glutenous pastries which I found to be delicious but not good for my body, I was excited to find gluten-free options finally available that werenāt just cookies. I preordered 3 gluten-free brookies and 3 gluten free brownies & collected today. They both look different in the website but both looked the same in shape in todayās purchase, just that the Brookie was different colours. In texture they were both really hard whereas as far as Iām aware, brownies should be moist in the middle. The brownies were hard all the way through the same as the brookies. The box for the gluten free & non gluten free says that that they best warmed for two minutes before being eaten. This isnāt mentioned in the website. I bought the gluten free options to eat whilst out, not when @ home with access to air fryer/oven⦠Feels like a complete waste of Ā£24. Unfortunately I donāt live in Glasgow to be able to take them back. Very disappointed⦠Additional review: Having heated them up in the oven as per instructions in the box, both were absolutely delicious but they need to be heated else dry & hard.
Read on Google MapsA cute little cafe with a range of fully vegan savoury and sweet dishes. We had iced coffees to take away which were good. There are only 2-3 spaces if youāre looking to sit in, but it is doable.
Read on Google MapsI AM OBSESSED WITH YOU š You donāt understand. I literally go here straight from the airport every time I land in Glasgow. Everything is perfection. The hazelnut pain au chocolat especially is DIVINE. I canāt believe itās all vegan. Iāve desperately packed pastries from here in my luggage when Iāve travelled back to my home country to bring some to my family š As a person with a major sweet tooth, I was surprised to find that the savoury pastries are just as addicting as their sweet ones. The sausage roll croissant is something I think about often. Itās the most delicious breakfast you could have. Please be open more days of the week in the future. I LOVE YOU š„¹
