The Amsterdam (The Dam) is a rock-and-roll dive bar and food room at 106–108 Brunswick Street in Glasgow's Merchant City, inside the Brunswick Hotel. It replaced the hotel's former Brutti Ma Buoni bar after a refurb that darkened the ground floor and opened a poster-ceiling basement for live music. Glasgowist (Paul Trainer, Jan 2019) said the Saint Luke's / Winged Ox team was building it for stiff drinks, late nights and basement gigs, with an expected late-January open; DRAM Scotland (Feb 2019) named Michael Woods as adding the hotel bar to that portfolio, and GM Alex Riches described about 60 covers upstairs, Dutch dive-bar décor (red lights, bricked walls) and a roughly 100-capacity basement as a sister stage to Saint Luke's and The Winged Ox. The Skinny's May 2019 openings round-up treated it as newly open; a later Glasgow Times / Glasgowist dining column (Paul Trainer) dated the open to February 2019 and quoted Woods on a neighbourhood music bar where local bands graduate toward Saint Luke's (Glasvegas among intimate bookings) and touring names such as Tom Walker and Lewis Capaldi have dropped in for post-gig drinks. The official site (thedamglasgow.com) pushes whiskies, beers, party drinks and "flavour bombs" rather than healthy eating, lists lunch 12:00–16:00 and dinner 16:00–21:00, and takes inside-only reservations (no beer-garden bookings); larger groups can use a mezzanine via info@thedamglasgow.com or 0141 552 5108. The Brunswick Hotel food-and-drink page and CAMRA both list the bar open 9am–midnight daily; CAMRA also notes pavement tables, lunch and evening meals, sports TV, quiz nights and hotel accommodation. Named food mentions include burgers, boneless wings, mac and cheese and fries (Glasgow Foodie delivery review, May 2020) and, in the Glasgow Times column, loaded fries, shakshuka, sourdough pizzas, burgers and breakfast buns. Argyle Street rail is about a five-minute walk and St Enoch subway about eight minutes (Brunswick Hotel location page); CAMRA puts Argyle Street station about 400 m and bus routes about 100 m.

This is the final day of the Merchant City Festival, and UberEats can help if you're staying in. The Dam is open with drinks prepared in a metal shaker behind a bar featuring a red and white mat and red bottles.
We stopped here for a few drinks. It was a VERY RARE day and it was hot and sunny in Glasgow. We managed to share a bench outside with a group. We went inside to get drinks to begin with and then as they night went on was told its table service. Apart from one lady who made the effort to serve us staff were either super busy or just ignoring us. I had to get up 5 times to grab someone to get drinks. Kind of ruined our night as the group next to us managed to get the staff to help. Drinks were reasonable in price and was a lively location. Wouldn’t return if it’s only table service

Read on Google MapsThe Amsterdam was a cool looking pub/restaurant that caught our attention as our family wandered the streets of Edinburgh from the Cathedral to George square and the Modern Art Museum. The food was standard pub fare, but quite good and satisfying. Disappointingly, I was driving and didn't feel comfortable ordering alcohol, but this looked like a great place to do so. The hostess who met us at the door was very helpful and let us check the menu to be sure they they would have suitable vegan options for my daughter, which they did (the "No Clucks Given" faux chicken sandwich). She was also our very efficient waitress. The picture of my "Cluck in Smoke" smokey chicken and cheese sandwich only shows one onion rings on top because I ate the other one (there were 2) as soon as the waitress set it in front of me. My son had chicken strips, which I think they called boneless chicken wings. My wife had 3 tacos. You could mix and match fillings. They were good, she said, but the size of street tacos. Very nice place. I suspect that they are busy in the evenings, but they we wide open for lunch.
Read on Google MapsGorgeous bar with amazing ambience which also happened to have world rock climbing championships on the telly so we got engrossed in that! The beers were great and cold, and the loaded chips were delicious. We'd have ordered more but were still so full from a late lunch. Would be back again for sure - I struggle to believe staff were rude as suggested a few reviews down from this!
Read on Google MapsStaff were so accommodating and friendly, couldn't do enough for us. It was gay pride and the bar went all out to make everyone feel welcome. Had a great table and they managed to extend our stay with a bit of flexibility. Service was cracking given it was absolutely chokka block. Thanks for a great day celebrating pride🏳️🌈
