Overview

Nonna Said is a wood-fired pizza restaurant and bar at 26 Candleriggs in the Merchant City. It started as a lockdown delivery takeaway from Maryhill and opened its Candleriggs restaurant in early May 2021 in the former Khublai Khan unit. Business partners Andy McCartney and Scott Leask run it; opening press named head chef Ryan Burns and development chef John Molloy. Pizzas are Napoli-style thin bases with mozzarella and Nonna's ragu, plus loud topping combinations: Salt and Chilli Chicken, Lamb Shawarma, El Mexicano Loco, Spice Boi (jalapeno poppers, mac and cheese, buffalo sauce) and Scottish BBQ with Buckfast BBQ sauce, square sausage, bacon and spicy mince. There are also loaded sides (fries, nachos, hash browns, mac and cheese) and cocktails. Capacity is about 130, with a licence until 1am. The Scotsman found it fun rather than a knockout; Glasgow Foodie liked the food but found spice levels high by default. Street artist Conzo Throb designed the interior art. Book or call 0141 648 4848.

Definitely recommend! The service was 10/10 with friendly and great staff, especially one of the managers. We had vegetarian and normal pepperoni pizzas and both were delicious, everything was also priced well the service was really quick.

Family of 3, we ordered 2 pizzas and 3 starters. We ordered the salt and chill battered smoked sausage, wasn't impressed as its wasn't a smoked sausage at all and there was absolute no salt and chilli taste to it. Mozzarella stick was nice and the chilli cheese bites were ok. Pizzas were the best but it took about 30-40 minutes to receive the second pizza. We were told we would get our drinks and Pizza off the bill but only th Pizza was deducted. Service was great but unlikely to return as a family.

Went here for the first time and my goodness I was impressed. Great choices of food both for vegans and non vegans, great prices too and the portion sizes are impressive. The chilli cheese loaded fries were needed and just devoured and their cheese pizza was immense. The pizza sauce has such a rich tomato taste and just goes down a treat. Make sure you treat yourself to some hot honey too.

Great service, friendly environment, lgbt+ friendly and the best gluten free pizza I’ve ever tried, went to the pride party and they had a dj and gave out free rainbow cake 🍰 🍕 🌈
