What People Are Saying
Bar + Block Steakhouse Glasgow offers a steakhouse dining experience with a focus on meat specialties, receiving mixed reviews that reflect both strengths and areas for improvement. The restaurant has received praise for its food quality when executed well, though service consistency and food temperature issues have been raised by some reviewers.
The food at Bar + Block receives positive feedback when quality standards are met, with dishes described as lovely, absolutely delicious, fantastic, and incredible. The mixed platter with different meat specialties receives particular acclaim, with everything described as absolutely delicious. Specific items like prawns and brisket burnt ends are described as incredible, and desserts are described as fantastic. The small plates receive positive feedback for their portions, and starters are noted as very well priced.
However, there have been concerns raised about food quality and consistency. Some reviewers have reported issues with steak temperatures not matching requests, with one reviewer noting a steak came rare/blue when medium was requested, and another noting a medium-rare request came between medium and medium-well. There have been reports of food temperature issues, with starters described as tepid and the overall temperature described as insanely cold. Portion size concerns have been raised, with one reviewer feeling short-changed on a 16oz Chateaubriand that didn't seem like 16oz. Side dishes have received mixed feedback, with garlic mushrooms described as lovely, but triple cooked chips described as tasting like any other home fries, asparagus described as well overdone, and potatoes described as obviously frozen. Some reviewers have found the food all right at best, suggesting inconsistency in quality.
Service at Bar + Block has been inconsistent according to reviewers. When service is good, individual staff members like Andrew and Dina receive exceptional praise, with Andrew described as incredible and Dina described as professional, proactive, and helpful with translations and travel tips. However, there have been significant service issues reported, including very slow service with 20-minute waits just to order and 40-minute waits between drinks and starters, even when the restaurant wasn't busy. There have been reports of staff standing around chatting rather than working, with one reviewer noting there was enough staff but not enough actually working. Some reviewers have found the service style over the top and quite fake, with practices like asking for first names feeling weird in a restaurant setting. Service has been described as attentive if slow, and there have been issues with getting bills and having incorrect bills that needed correction.
Value perception varies among reviewers, with some finding prices right and starters very well priced, creating a balanced feel for multi-course meals. However, others have noted that prices on steaks are a little up there, and some feel that the food and service don't match the prices. One reviewer noted it's fine if you can get a deal or voucher, suggesting value may be better with discounts.
The wine selection has been noted as an area that could be better, though prices were described as right.
For those seeking a steakhouse experience in Glasgow, Bar + Block offers potential for good meals, particularly when service is operating well and food quality is consistent. The restaurant's ability to deliver absolutely delicious food when standards are met, combined with excellent service from specific staff members, demonstrates its potential. However, the inconsistency in service speed, food quality, and temperature control suggests that experiences may vary. Reviewers who have had positive experiences highly recommend the restaurant and plan to return, while others feel there may be better options in Glasgow, particularly at full price without deals or vouchers.
Reviews
As walk in customers, we where seated given table water fast however that's where the speed went to a complete stand still. About 20 minutes wait just to order drinks and the food even though there was multiple waitresses standing around having a chat throughout this wait. Finally our server Waheed arrived to take our order. Some people like that kind of service however I found it over the top and quite fake asking first names and what not is just weird in a restaurant setting in my opinion. Anyway drinks came and then it was 40 minute wait between the drinks arriving and the starters arriving. The restaurant wasn't even busy probably not even 1/3 capacity. Although the starters where ok one was tepid at this stage I wasn't about to wait another 40 minutes for a reeeplacement and just ate it. After finishing the starter the main came quite soon after although ordered the Chateaubriand 16oz and felt very short changed at the price compared to what we got. It definitely didn't seem like 16oz although it was very nice, the garlic mushroom side was lovely, the "triple cooked chips" tasted like any other you'd put in your frier at home, the asparagus was well overdone. Then waiting around for someone to ask for a bill. There was enough staff but not enough actually working! Waheen seemed like the only wait staff actually doing anything. Finally we get the bill which was wrong however he'd noticed and changed it. He was apologetic about the service and I told him I'd noticed staff standing around while we waited and he replied "I know" like it was an expected thing there. This whole experience took around 2 hours in total and wasn't cheap. They're marketing themselves as quite a nice place which it is but the food and service doesn't match the prices.
Read on Google MapsAndrew was incredible! Food was lovely. Wine selection could be better, but the prices were right. We had a great time!
Read on Google MapsWent for the Sunday roast. The service was attentive if slow, and the temperature was insanely cold. The meal itself was all right at best, with the chicken the highlight. I got the ultra roast that also include lamb and steak; it was just a slice of each one, and honestly I'm still not sure which one was which. The potatoes were obviously frozen; the broccoli and the peas were good. Honestly I'm sure there are better options in Glasgow but it's fine if you can get a deal/voucher.
Read on Google MapsWe had an amazing evening at Bar + Block Steakhouse in Glasgow! I tried the mixed platter with different meat specialties and everything was absolutely delicious. The dessert was also fantastic. A special thanks to Dina, who not only spoke our language and helped us with translations, but also gave us some great local travel tips. She was professional, proactive, and made our evening extra special. Highly recommended – 5 stars!
Read on Google MapsHad a fantastic meal with my fiancée. Ordered 4 small plates, portions were lovely for what they were, the prawns and the brisket burnt ends were incredible! Ordered 2 rump steaks, an 8oz and a 12oz, and unfortunately both were marred by being the wrong temperatures (fiancée had to send her 8oz back because it was rare/blue when asked for as medium). Mine was requested Medium rare, and came between medium and medium well. Still tasted lovely, just wished I'd sent mine back too. Prices on the steaks are a little up there, but the starters are very well priced so it makes it feel quite balanced overall if you're there for 2 courses at least. Planning to come back here later in the week for another meal, would definitely recommend.
