Soul Food Sisters is a women-only workers’ co-op and not-for-profit on Gallowgate, run by migrant women who cook recipes from their home countries. The collective started at the Hidden Gardens at Tramway and opened its permanent café at 202 Gallowgate in March 2018, after years of workshops and catering around the city. Glasgow Live and the Daily Record have covered the project as a social enterprise that ploughs surplus back into supporting members. The café serves freshly made dishes, coffee and cake with a menu that shifts with who’s cooking — think international home food rather than a fixed “soul food” branding. Hours are limited because it is mainly volunteer-led: Thursday–Saturday, 10am–5pm. Check before you go if you’re making a special trip. Beyond the daytime café they do catering (buffets, weddings, events) and ticketed cooking workshops — for example Algerian baklava sessions at the Gallowgate space. You’re on the east end of Gallowgate near the Barras; frequent buses run the corridor, and St Enoch Subway is about a 10–15 minute walk west.
What an amazing bunch of women sharing their mouth watering food with us!! Such a treat in Glasgow to have this world class food. I ordered dinner for 20 women at a retreat and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food. So many flavours and beautifully presented too. Lots of thought, preparation and love goes into it, and you can tell with every bite! Thank you sisters!!

The women running the workshop were so kind and generous, I feel so blessed to have learned from them and spent this time meeting new people. The menu changes all the time based on who is cooking and what their homeland's cuisine is. I've been wanting to try it for ages and today I got. It lived up to expectation and more . It has a lovely clean and simple interior and the staff were super lovely. Today was an Eritrean vibe, so we had Eritrean Baba Gouash and hummus with pitta, and soup. Its cheap and it's delicious. Come and expand your vista here, I promise if you like your food, you'll love it here. I can't wait to go back!
